Dhruv wanted to play cricket since childhood, but his father Nem Singh wanted to see him serve the country. Dhruv’s father, who contributed to the Kargil war, was against him becoming a cricketer.
Batting at number seven in the ongoing fourth Test against England, Dhruv Jurel scored 90 in India’s first innings. He scored 46 runs in the first Test at Rajkot. Dhruv created a stir in the cricket world with his performance.
The 23-year-old wicketkeeper-batsman smashed six fours and four sixes in the Ranchi Test. According to media reports, the team management is very happy with Dhruv’s strong performance in the debut series. It is believed that he can be given a chance in the Dharamsala Test (March 7-11).
He started playing cricket without his father’s consent.
For Dhruv Jurel, who was born in Agra, Uttar Pradesh, getting to this point has not been easy. The story of his struggle is inspirational for young players. The 22-year-old’s father did not want him to become a cricketer. He wanted to dedicate his son to the service of the country. Daral, Dhruv’s father Nem Singh was in the army, who participated in the Kargil war. Dhruv was born in 2001. From a young age, he wanted to be a cricketer, but he was afraid of his father.
While studying in the Army School, he also started going to swimming camps, but he was more interested in cricket than swimming. When swimming classes were going on in school, Dhruv used to play cricket. He liked cricket so much that he removed his name from swimming and wrote it in cricket. When his father found out about Koisa, he was very angry, but later agreed. When Dhruv wanted a bat, his father borrowed Rs 800 from his friends to get one.
Dhruv has played under-14 and under-16 age group cricket for Uttar Pradesh. He was then selected for India’s U-19 team for the World Cup in 2020. From here, he never looked back. He also became the vice-captain of the country’s U-19 team in 2020. His team lost to Bangladesh in the final of the U-19 World Cup, but Dhruv won the U-19 Asia Cup under his captaincy. At the beginning of his career, Dhruv used to bowl off-spin, but his bowling was nothing special. In such a situation, he tried his hand at wicketkeeping and in this role, he impressed everyone. He was also a wicket-keeper and a middle-order batsman.
Dhruv made his Ranji Trophy debut for Uttar Pradesh against Vidarbha in 2022 and has so far played 15 first-class matches, scoring 790 runs, including a century and five fifties. His highest score is 249. Dhruv has also played 10 List-A and 23 T20 matches. He was bought by Rajasthan Royals (RR) for Rs 20 lakh in the IPL 2022 mega auction.
However, he got his first chance in IPL 2023. In the IPL, Dhruv made his debut as an impact player against Punjab Kings in Guwahati on 5 April 2023. He scored 32 off 15 balls in the first innings. It has been a matter of debate ever since. Dhruv has played 13 IPL matches so far, scoring 152 runs at a strike rate of 172.72 and Rajasthan retained the explosive wicketkeeper-batsman for IPL 2024.
A good performance in first-class cricket has also earned Dhruv a place in the India A team. He was part of the India A team that toured South Africa recently. Dhruv scored 69 runs in one of the four-day matches and also took three catches. After this, the selectors decided to give this young player a chance in the home series against England. Although he might not be the team management’s first choice as wicketkeeper for the first two Tests, the experience of being in the senior Indian men’s dressing room will be crucial for the Agra-born right-hander. A die-hard fan of Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Dhruv hopes to follow in the footsteps of his idol and become a successful cricketer like the Ranchi stalwart.
Like Dhruv, Dhoni wants to lead the Indian team. He has a knack of trapping opposition batsmen with patience and finesse behind the wickets. At the same time, he considers AB de Villiers as his idol in batting. Virat Kohli is a fitness freak when it comes to fitness. After showing his talent in the IPL this year, he now has a chance to show his talent to the country as well. Under the watchful eyes of stalwarts like Rohit and Virat, the 22-year-old Dhruv still has plenty of time to hone his skills.
Dhruv Jurel Profile: Father Kargil war hero, mortgaged mother’s jewellery, is no less than Sarfaraz Khan Dhruv Jurel Test Debut Along with Sarfaraz Khan, Dhruv Jurel also made his debut in the Rajkot Test against England. The cricketer, who is responsible for making a splash with the gloves, is the son of a Kargil war hero, while his mother had mortgaged her jewellery to buy a cricket kit.

Rajkot. Rishabh Pant became a cricketer while spending nights in a Gurudwara in Delhi, while Thangarasu Natarajan’s mother used to sell meat on the street. Rinku Singh’s father used to distribute gas cylinders from house to house and the story of Dhruv Jurel is in front of us. His father spent his entire life protecting India by hanging a gun on his shoulder and also fought against Pakistan in the Kargil war. Not only this, there was no money to get Jurel a cricket kit, so the mother sold her jewelry. Then today this son has been able to make his debut for India. Dinesh Karthik gave him his debut cap.
It is a different matter that on this special day of his, there is more talk of Sarfaraz, who was raining runs in domestic cricket for Mumbai, but in statistics and struggle, the son of Kargil War Hero is no less than Sarfaraz. Dhruv replaced KS Bharat in the ongoing third Test against England at the Niranjan Shah Stadium in Rajkot. On one side is Sarfaraz Khan, whose father Naushad Khan pushed hard to make him an international cricketer.
